Cutting Grass on Boulevards

July 17, 2003

An issue has been brought up regarding the homeowner responsibility on cutting grass on city boulevards.  The following information was provided from Jim Tchir at the Public Works Department:

The homeowner is responsible for cutting all boulevards, including those that flank the property. The only exception is the City's responsibility for cutting grass on Regional Streets. Shorehill is known as a Collector Street. The following is from a city bylaw:

On January 31, 2001 Council amended By-Law No. 5895/92 by deleting subsection 4(1) thereof in order to allow for the transfer of responsibility of boulevard flankage mowing to the resident. This amendment became By-Law No. 7766/2001.
